- Their base is a wooden shed in a vast, empty feild which is situated in a rural and barely habitated area.
- One day while Adelie is in the shed writing new leaflets she hears a loud noise just outside. She goes to investigate and finds a small British army plane has landed in the field. She is shocked and soon realises that a British soldier is trapped inside it.
- She eventually manages to drag the unconcious piliot out of the plane and hides him in the shed, waiting for him to come round
- When he finally does wake up he's confused and disorientated. Adelie struggles to explain to him what happened as her English is rather poor, but he understands and is very grateful to her for saving him. He introduces himself as George Watson.
- Adelie takes food to him everyday and makes sure he is comfertable in the shed. They spend more and more time together and he learns that she loves art and swimming wheras he has a great talent for poetry and playing chess (which he teaches her).
- Despite the language barrior, the pair instinctively understand each other and realise that they share a mutual longing for the war to end as George was forced to become a soldier even if his ambition was to write poetry.
- One night they sit together in the shed and George starts to write a poem which Adelie reads, with difficulty. She realises how beautiful it is and decides to finish it, making it their poem, which is about how beautiful life is and how much they love each other. (Poem is called 'The Eternal Rose')
- Adelie, who has kept George a secret from the rest of the gang so far, is then confronted by Ada who enters the shed one morning (left unlocked) and found George living there.
- She confronts Adelie telling her how dangerous it is for all of them to keep him there, but she doesn't care and says she never wants him to leave.
- Unfortunately the Gestapo (German secret police) overhear their conversation and follow Ada home, where they torture her until she confesses everything, revealing the whereabouts of George, etc.
- The Gestapo raid the shed and drag out Adelie and George, arresting them and also other members of the gang who they find are responsible for the leaflets.
- The film ends at the executions. One shot is shown of George, about to be hanged, reciting the poem he and Adelie wrote. It then cuts to Adelie's execution (decapitation) as she finishes off the poem and the film ends.
